What hand-reared means

Tame, confident companions

Hand-reared birds are fed and handled by us as they grow, so they’re used to people and settle in quickly. It’s the difference between a bird you watch and a bird that’s part of the family.

Bonded from day one

Because they’re raised with constant human contact, our hand-reared parrots are confident, affectionate and happy to be handled — ideal as a companion bird.

We’ll match you up

Every species has its own personality, noise level and needs. Tell us about your home and experience and we’ll help you find the right fit — or let you know what’s coming in next.

A guide to the companion parrots you’ll find with us through the year, grouped by family. Exactly who’s in store shifts from week to week as our babies are ready — so treat this as a taste of the range rather than a live stock list.

Which birds are in right now?

Our hand-reared babies come and go as they’re weaned and ready, so the exact mix of species changes all the time. For an up-to-date list of who’s available — and what’s coming in soon — it’s best to pop into the store or give us a quick call, and we can let you know the moment new birds are ready.

Just some information

Before a bird joins your flock

Hand-reared parrots are brilliant, affectionate companions — and a real commitment, often for decades. A quick checklist of things worth thinking about (and questions we’re always happy to answer in store):

  • Space for the right-sized cage, away from draughts and kitchen fumes
  • A good base diet — quality pellets and seed, plus fresh veg and clean water
  • Daily company and enrichment — hand-reared parrots crave interaction
  • Realistic expectations on noise and mess, especially for the bigger species
  • An avian-savvy vet for check-ups and the odd hiccup

Not sure where to start?

Tell us your space, your experience and what you’re hoping for, and we’ll match you with a bird that fits — or let you know what’s coming in next. Pop in, call the store, or send an enquiry and we’ll get back to you.
